My Journey to Yoga

I first discovered yoga in 2008 as a high school student looking for a way to de-stress, stretch, and find peace in the mornings before school. My first class was with students over 40-50 years old and I was so impressed by the poses and arm balances, but I got really hooked by the guided meditations. At the time I was living with the ups and downs of anxiety & depression and needed a way to get out of my head. Since committing to a regular practice in 2011, I have practiced many styles and studied different lineages to find my own path through Hatha, Ashtanga, Kriya, Vinyasa, Yin, and Restorative yoga. My passion within those is leading pranayama and guided meditation.

In 2018, I completed my teacher training under Karen Thomas and Elizabeth Reynolds, Ashtanga & Vinyasa instructors, at Opal Yoga of Charlottesville, Virginia. We dove deeply into Ashtanga series, Kirtan ceremony, anatomy & physiology of vinyasa and yin yoga, and so much more.

My first students out of training were children in Denver, a 36 week pregnant woman, mothers and babies, and seniors with chair yoga. Guiding gentle yoga and meditation became my passion quickly. Since then I have taught in 5+ yoga studios, on my own international and Colorado yoga retreats, and privately in clients' homes.

In college, I had a profound moment or breakthrough as to why I wanted to share yoga. I was alone in my salt rock lit room, burning palo santo, moving and breathing through some emotional stress. I decided to sit down in front of my floor length mirror and just lock eyes with myself. It started with a blank stare to appreciate my impurities and beauty, then I smirked almost laughing at myself, thinking how could I ever be mean or hurtful to this face, and immediately I began to sob. I don't know how long I cried, or what I was crying about, but during and after I recognized my calling to show others how to love themselves exactly as they are. It became a dream of mine to guide people out of self-hatred and self-loathing thoughts into a space of acceptance, love, and surrender into the pure beauty of existence.

I am honored to have worked with and practiced under many wonderful instructors, gurus, energy workers, and intuitive healers who have shown me that all of the answers lie within and that what you believe is what you become. Some of my teachers are: Jonathan Miles of Richmond, VA & Marissa Angeletti, Devon Sweeney, & Daniel Taylor of Denver, CO. RR. Shakti of Vail Valley has also inspired my practice more recently with her deep knowledge in mythology and yoga practice.

As a natural born leader with the ability to connect and hold space for others, I am constantly working on listening with intention & sharing supportive guidance with students and friends. My passion is guiding others to make friends with themselves, listen to their body, tune into sensations of movement, and to be their true authentic selves on their mat and in the real world.

While yoga, meditation & massage are my initial offerings to you, I am a nomadic spirit constantly planning my next retreat, sailing trip, or hiking adventure. Join me on my upcoming adventures!
